Head Lice: An

by norman horowitz

Head lice are common among children, especially those attending school or daycare centers. They then spread from the children to adults. While the finding of lice is often embarrassing, it is something that happens to nearly everyone in a lifetime and is nothing that should cause one to look down on a person that has it.

Head lice results from contact with someone (or possibly an object) that has been infected with lice. It typically spreads within a family and also infects any other people that come in contact with the infected individuals or their clothing, hats or furniture. Lice can live for three days, so it makes it hard to find the source of the infection.

Prevention of head lice is important. Many daycare centers and preschools require that children store their coats and hats in a special place where they do not come into contact with other children's clothing. Some sports teams require that players have their own protective head gear as lice can be easily transferred to an entire team during one round of batting practice.

While everyone has their own way to get rid of lice, most doctors agree that head lice is best treated with over the counter or prescription chemicals that the person who has lice leaves on their hair for a certain period of time before washing it out. After this, all of the lice eggs (also called nits) have to be combed out of the hair with a special fine toothed comb.

Louse can be treated with organic methods. There are organic shampoos and lotions that are made to get rid of lice. You can also look online for additional suggestions on how to get rid of lice without using harmful chemicals. Some of these ways include soaking your hair in baby or vegetable oil while you sleep. This will smother the lice.

Pubic lice and head lice are different and they don't respond to the same cure either. It should be kept in mind that if one has the other it doesn't necessarily mean that he has both types.

It is common to find head lice in children who go to daycare centers or school. A person having lice should not be look down as it is something, which is very common and might happen to anyone in a person's life. The lice that appear in one type of hair are quite separate from pubic lice. Head louse can be treated with organic methods. Many organic shampoos and lotions get rid of lice.
