Commercial Door Locks That Work

by Rex Freiberger

Most often, people do not ever contemplate the locking mechanisms that provide essential security for their places of business. Only after the company is closed, or if a child locks it accidentally and people are prevented from entering or exiting, do people consider the unobtrusive but heavy duty commercial locks that secure most companies and organizations.

Known for their tamper-proof characteristics, commercial door locks are nearly impossible to circumvent. For this reason, most robberies of businesses happen either during the day when people are present or in the night and usually involve breaking glass in a door or window.

Some criminals have even gone to great lengths to get around a business's commercial door locks. On occasion, some burglars have stolen vehicles to drive through the sides of buildings in order to commit a robbery. They find that is easier than tampering with high quality commercial door locks.

Commercial door locks are often used to keep a business safe and are easily installable. Locks contained in doorknobs or handles like the ones used at residential properties are often used by smaller businesses. This type are often not the most secure choice. A lock system using a bar that inserts into the ground or the ceiling is more complicated but much more secure.

Many commercial door locks these days are controlled by changeable combinations. This is a way to cut down on the costs of having the locks changed when an employee loses or does not return a key. This also allows some locking systems to be connected to the business's burglar alarm, so that opening the door any way other than with the correct code triggers an alarm.

Maintaining proper control of the keys to a business organization's commercial door locks is paramount to the company's security. Most often, prior employees or their family members the individuals who would be tempted to use a key to the detriment of the business. For this reason, whenever an employee resigns or is terminated, the importance of ensuring that the keys to the business's commercial locks are returned is essential for company security.

Numerous varieties of door locks can be installed to protect a company's assets. Small firms may utilize only basic doorknobs with locks embedded in them, as people do in their homes. To ensure the safety and security of your business, it is imperative that you keep track of keys to your commercial door locks. Family members of current employees, and former employees are the ones that are most likely to take their old keys and use them inappropriately. No matter the reason for an employee's departure, it is absolutely critical that they return their set of keys to the commercial locks at your establishment.
