Residential Burglary Prevention Door Guards - Preventing Crime

by Rex Freiberger

Most residential burglaries can be prevented if proper security measures are taken by the homeowners to safe guard their home. Statistics show that most thefts happen by breaking the lock of the front door. Residential burglary prevention door guards play a vital role in home security. Door guards make the job of breaking in from the door very hard for the burglar. At least it increases the length of time it would take to break in. Which increases the chances of a burglar being seen and possibly identified.

Residential burglary prevention door guards fall into three main categories: door chains, bars that prevent doors from being kicked in, and mesh screen door guards (in stainless steel). Door chains allow a person to partially open a door and view who is on the other side, protecting against entry to the premises while allowing conversation, or handing off a paper or small parcel. The chain is anchored to the door, and then can be attached to a slot in the door frame. When the chain is engaged, the chain can only be released by closing the door, which helps protect against someone trying to force their way in.

Expect to pay between five to twenty dollars for door chain. The amount will depend on the quality of the chain. At the cheaper end of the market is a straight forward chain, easy to attach and use. Slightly more sophisticated is a chain that can be locked and unlocked from outside. Then there are more advanced door chains that can be used with a sliding bolt or have an alarm ready to go off if someone tries to force the door.

A residential burglary prevention door kick-in bar is a device created to stop a door from being opened by force. It consists of a heavy metal bar, that is horizontally attached across the door with a two-point locking system that locks the door on both sides. The kick-in bar will run you about $150.

Putting a steel mesh door in is a good way to protect your home. It is a big obstacle for an invader to overcome, and they will most likely give up before they succeed. This also provides additional protection for the door, and it's a way to speak with visitors before you let them in. This protection will set you back around six to seven hundred dollars.

The old adage that it is better to be safe than sorry is so true nowadays! A great way to prevent yoursef against an unexpected and unwanted burglary is to install residential burglary prevention doors in your home. It gives any homeowner a sense of security while preventing intruders from entering your home.

Most thieves break in through the door lock on the front door. Door guards make it very difficult for a would-be burglar to break in through the door.
