Do-It-Yourself Styling Project For Contemporary Bathroom Furniture

by Wyatt Fisk

Vanities and cabinets are the fastest, easiest and most satisfying do-it-yourself bathroom projects that could definitely change the aesthetics of any bath space. You should put in mind that the materials that were used for your vanities and cabinets, especially wood, are subject to wear out overtime due to water and chemicals from the bath products that you use. One good way in order to avoid further damages from your vanities and cabinets is to immediately repair them whenever they are showing signs of damages. However, if no damages are needed to be attended to and you only want to have modern bathroom cabinets and vanities without necessarily purchasing, you can simply refurbish your old bathroom furniture to update its style.

To achieve modern bathroom furniture you would need household cleaner, wash cloth, water, fine grit sandpaper, paint scrape, screwdriver, paintbrush or sponge, water based primer and paint, and new handles. To start with your project, think of a design that would complement your bathroom. The design that you will conceptualize will affect the color palette that you would use for this project.

Collect all the things inside and outside of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets, and set them aside for the remainder of the project. Following this, unscrew the doors and drawers of your furnishings as well as their handles if you want to replace them with new ones; this would make it easier for you to clean and paint these hardware pieces. Using household cleaner diluted in water and wash cloth, clean these hardware pieces. Make sure to clean the entire surface as well as the inside of your vanities and cabinets.

Once the pieces of your contemporary bathroom vanities and cabinets are dry, sand their surfaces with the use of fine grit sandpaper to remove previous paint. If the fine grit sandpaper isn't effective enough to remove the previous paint of your furniture you could also use paint scraper. The rough surface produced by sanding would allow the paint to hold properly on the hardware, and would also prevent bubbles from forming on the surface of your fixtures. Sanding could also remove bumps on the surface of your fixture.

After sanding the drawers and doors of your contemporary bathroom vanities, wipe away all the excess dust residue using a damp sponge, then set them aside until they dry. You could proceed with the painting process if the hardware pieces are already dry; the first thing you should do is to paint each piece with a thin layer of water-based primer. Once the primer dries up, apply the actual color you have chosen for your furnishings using a paintbrush, or for a more vintage look you could also combine terracotta latex paint and glaze of any color.

Before installing the new handles of the drawers and doors of your bathroom furnishings, make sure that the paint have dried up to avoid smudges. After doing this, reassemble the pieces on their respective places, and give them a quick wipe to remove dust particles. Now, you can make use of your homemade modern bathroom furniture pieces. With the aid of these quick and easy refurbishing guide, it won't be necessary to purchase new bathroom furnishings to update the look of your bath space.

Contemporary bathroom vanities as well as modern bathroom cabinets are good fixtures inside bath spaces because of the storage they provide. However, due to frequent usage they are also subject to wear and tear that could shorten their service life. In order to prevent this from happening, it is necessary to refurbish or refinish these modern bathroom furniture pieces when needed in order to replace their old parts or to update their styles.
