Improve Your Outdoor Space Aesthetics Using Fountains

by Wyatt Fisk

Creating a beautiful outdoor space is a very daunting task. Assuming that you already have the plants in place along with your outdoor furnishings, you would soon notice that something is missing, and then you'll realize that your garden is lacking a water feature that would make it more authentic and close to nature. Of course, you'll never ran out of water features to use for your outdoor space; from ponds and streams, to pools and water spouts, there are definitely wide selections to choose from. However, building these fixtures eats a lot of time and energy; what you actually need is something that you could easily install and maintain and this is when a wall fountain would be useful.

Actually, wall fountain is a new addition to the design of fountains. As its name suggest, it is a water feature that you could mount on your garden wall. It is space efficient and suitable for small areas, but could also be used on wide wall spaces. Such water feature could be attached in various ways; some finishes could be attached using mortars supported by special T-blocks, or decorative braces that act as brackets, while others come with their own mounting hardware.

Wall fountain designs are nearly infinite, but most of the time they feature a jet of water sprinkling to a basin or trough, capable of creating a focal point on your garden wall. One of the most favorite pick for wall-mounted fountain designs is the artisan finish which features hand carved heads of various characters that includes cherubs, lions, and mythological creatures, wherein the water spouts from the mouths of these characters. Wall shell or bowl fountains are also preferable choices credited to the series of basins they hold where water cascade gracefully and produces a delightful stream-like sound. They work well for classic looking landscapes and gardens, and are also suitable for personal outdoor spaces in urban areas as they control the amount of noise coming from roadways.

If you outdoor space is wide and plants would not suffice the design plan you intend to incorporate, floor fountains would be the most ideal water features to use. As a matter of fact, they are probably the most sophisticated and deliberate means to integrate the element of water on your landscape. If installed in the right settings, these stand-alone water features become the focal point of landscape designs. Aside from establishing visual interest, these fountains also stimulates the feeling of comfort through the splashing sound they produce.

Various floor fountains achieve different effects and purposes though they mainly function as decorative centerpieces. There are many styles to choose from and each of them has their own place in gardens. Ornamental statuary fountains are among the most popular since they hold large statues of differing characters; they are ideal for large courtyards and centerpieces for gardens and lawns. Birdbaths are also goof floor water features since they serve two primary purposes""decorative features and bird hangouts.

If space is really tight on your outdoor space; say you only have a balcony that could only hold a comfortable lounge set, it is still possible to integrate the element of water on your design by using a tabletop water fountain. Like the large ones, this small water feature could liven up the look of your balcony and make it an ideal location for conversations. There are wide selections to choose from that would surely complement your outdoor furniture. Some are designed to look like flower vases completer with intricate floral designs, while others are constructed from natural rocks, giving them their natural touch.

Fountains are dramatic inclusions for landscapes and other outdoor designs. The free standing element of floor fountains further highlights their appeal, making them ideal centerpieces for wide courtyards and gardens. A wall fountain on the other hand creates a sensual place within the garden wall, while a tabletop water fountain would do just as well as the other two if your outdoor space is only that of a small balcony.
